Certified. The Teen Masters (TM) is a scratch event and its bowling competition is certified and governed by the rules of the United States Bowling Congress (USBC).
Ownership. The TM is owned and operated by Killer ‘B’ Promotions (KBP). KBP reserves the right to determine any matters not covered in these rules or the rules of the USBC.
Eligibility. The TM is open to high school and younger athletes who meet the following criteria:
- Age. Was born after August 1, 1988.
- Enrollment. Is a student in good standing at an accredited school or home school program. December ’07 high school graduates are eligible for the 2008 Teen Masters provided they have not participated in intercollegiate bowling competition.
- Academic Performance. Holds the equivalent of a grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and is academically eligible to represent their school in interscholastic competition. If you’re grades won’t allow you to represent your school in other sports, it’s likely you shouldn’t be bowling in the Teen Masters. The minimum grade point average requirement may be waived for specific entrants at the discretion of tournament management.
- Member. Is a USBC Youth member. Non-members may pay a $2 USBC participation fee at the tournament site.
Good Sportsmanship. TM participants are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship by treating themselves and their fellow athletes with respect and by giving their best effort at all times.
Competition. TM qualifying competition will consist of singles and team competition on a Teen Masters Sport-compliant lane conditions. Team qualifying consists of twelve (12) Baker games by a four-person coed team with each team member bowling three (3) games as anchor. Singles consists of six (6) games.
Team Rosters. Teams will consist of four team members, including at least one (1) boy and one (1) girl. Each roster must be comprised of a given center’s league bowlers or affiliated high school bowlers.
- A league bowler is defined as having 21 games of USBC-certified league competition in a given center bowled over at least a 6 week period prior to participating in a Teen Masters regional qualifier as a representative of that center.
- An affiliated high school bowler is defined as a member of a high school bowling team, including varsity, junior varsity, and club, sponsored or hosted by a given bowling center.
Multiple Entries. Athletes may enter multiple team and singles qualifying competitions. Once a bowler has qualified for the national championships as a member of a given team, they are prohibited from participating in a qualifying event as a member of any other team. Bowlers who have already qualified for the national championships may continue to enter singles qualifying competition, but will not count against the number of additional athletes who will advance from that qualifier.
Regional Qualifying Event Entry Fees.
The entry fee for the team qualifying is $150 ($90 scholarships, $60 expenses) in advance of the Early Bee Deadline, $175 after the deadline including a $25 late processing fee. The entry fee for singles qualifying is $60 ($30 scholarship awards, $30 expenses) in advance of the Early Bee Deadline, $75 after the deadline including a $15 late processing fee. 100% of the scholarship funds collected will be awarded in the form of SMART scholarships. The Early Bee Deadline varies by location.
National Championships Expense Fee.
Each national finalist will be required to pay an expense fee of $200 which includes two (2) 2008 National Finalist polo shirts, admission for one (1) to the Welcome Celebration, event credentials, and entry into an additional bowling competition.
Walk-ins. Walk-in entries are accepted, but the on-site entry fee of $75 must be paid with cash, money order, Visa or MasterCard. Personal checks are NOT accepted.
No Refunds. Entry fees are non-refundable. Bowlers who enter more than one event and then qualify for the national championships in an earlier event will receive a credit toward the payment of their National Championships Expense Fee.
Closing Date. Qualifying for the Teen Masters closes July 19, 2008.
Qualifying Competitions. TM qualifying competitions will be staged across the United States and will include a “Last Chance” tournament on July 19th in Las Vegas.
Advancement to Nationals. Each regional qualifying competition will advance nine (9) athletes to the 2008 National Championships:
- Top one (1) team (4 athletes total) from the team competition
- Top two (2) boys from singles
- Top two (2) girls from singles
- Next highest bowler from singles regardless of sex
Additional National Finalists. KBP reserves the right to extend automatic invitations to eligible members of the following groups:
- 2007 Teen Masters National Championships Match Play Finalists
- 2008 Dexter All-American High School Team
- USBC/BPAA state representatives from Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico
Scholarship Awards. Athletes advancing to the 2008 National Championships are guaranteed a minimum SMART scholarship award of $100. Additional scholarships will be awarded at each regional qualifying event to non-advancers within each division on a 1:7 ratio based on the number of entries in that division.
SMART. All scholarship funds will be deposited in USBC SMART Account #8739.
Regional Qualifying Dress Code. All bowlers must be neatly dressed. All bowlers must wear a sleeved bowling or golf shirt with a butterfly collar. Boys will wear belted slacks, and girls will wear pants, non-denim skirts or skorts. No shorts, hats, headphones or clothing with obscene or vulgar images or language will be allowed.
National Finals Dress Code. National finalists are required to wear black slacks and official TM shirts and will be restricted from wearing logos or other sponsor identification other than that provided by TM sponsors.
Publicity Release. By entering the TM, the bowler acknowledges KBP’s right to make use of and to permit others to make use of bowler’s name, voice, pictures, photographs and other likeness for any purpose in any manner related to the advertising, publication or promotion of TM.

Parents and students should be aware that that participation in this or other bowling competitions, certified or uncertified, and/or the acceptance of any scholarship dollars could possibly affect eligibility based upon the state interscholastic association rules of the state in which a given student resides. Each family is strongly encouraged to confer with their school’s athletic director or a staff member of their state’s interscholastic association before participating in the TM or other bowling competition.
Female participants should also be aware that NCAA guidelines have at times restricted the acceptance of scholarship funds from sources outside of the college/university being attended by athletes competing in NCAA competition
